  • Acquire a digital certificate from a certificate authority
  • Secure an FTP server using System i Navigator, FTP exit programs, and the IBM i Digital Certificate Manager
  • Secure Telnet
  • Configure and activate IP filters
  • Set up and use OpenSSH in an IBM i environment
  • Define and configure VPN between IBM i systems
  • Plan and configure single sign-on in a Windows / IBM i environment

This intermediate course is intended for individuals who implement and/or support IBM i TCP/IP security.

You should have:

  • Basic IBM i skills including knowledge of the IFS
  • Basic System i Navigator skills
  • Basic Windows skills
  • IBM i TCP/IP knowledge
  • Experience in accessing the Internet

  • Exercise 1: Setting up a TCP/IP LAN connection using System i Navigator
  • Unit 2: Digital Certificate Manager

Day 2

  • Unit 3: File Transfer Protocol
  • Exercise 2: Securing IBM i FTP servers
  • Unit 4: Securing IBM i applications other than HTTP with SSL Exercise 3: Securing IBM i Access with SSL
  • Unit 5: IBM i IP packet filters

Day 3

  • Unit 5: IBM i IP packet filters
  • Exercise 4: IP packet filters Unit 6: OpenSSH
  • Unit 7: IBM i virtual private networks
  • Unit 8: Single sign on
